Some lads genuinely don’t take their skin care seriously, and that is completely fine. This post is for those who wanted a little more info on men’s skin care, specifically the face. Because come one, we all want to look our best!
I have never considered myself to have ever had really bad skin. I know there are a lot of people out there that suffer from severe acne and skin conditions, especially on their face. That being said, I would usually get at least one or two pimples that make their appearance. And it always seemed like those fuckers would appear when I had a presentation to do, a date or something important which required interaction with others.
It was pretty bad in high school and I would try everything. A few of those “old wives' tales” I heard like “don’t eat greasy food”, “don’t eat cheese”, "don’t eat chocolate”. It tried all of that stuff but nothing really worked. As I got older, I had a pretty basic skin routine. Wash my face each morning with a face wash or scrub, followed by a skin sensitive moisturizer. I would do that when I woke up and before I went to bed.
To cover big pimples, I even had a tinted moisturizer for men. Let’s all be honest here, its pretty much a mans version of foundation. I didn’t give a shit because it definitely hid that big red fucker that was staring at me in the mirror.
Now in my early thirties, I have finally found a routine that suits me. Of course, everyone is different. Men need different types of facial cleanser depending on if they have oily skin, sensitive skin, dry skin etc.
That being said, I will recommend these tips which I believe will defiantly help a variety of skin types.
1. Always wash your hair before bed! It seems simple, but I used to wake up with my face feeling oily and just fucking disgusting. And what I realized was that the hair product I used the day before, was still in my hair. So obviously, that would transfer to my pillow whilst sleeping which in turn would transfer to my face.
2. Seems obvious but sometimes I would be lazy and just want to go straight to bed... Wash your face before bed! I have the same morning and evening routine;
a. Wash face with a cleanser
c. Apply moisturizer
I know some men prefer not to use a moisturizer before bed but because mine has tea tree oil in it, it always makes my face feel soft and clean.
3. Face Masks! Yes yes yes it’s a been known as a "girly" thing to do. I get that. But I don’t give a fuck. I am not ashamed to wear one and I am honest about it. But, if you aren’t comfortable wearing one yet, just stick one on before you shower or when the girlfriend/wife is out the house. That way you can keep your pride and carry on being “a real strong man”. I use mine twice a week and stick it on whilst I watch TV or in the bath. It’s like a spa for your face. Gets rid of all that shit!
4. Collagen. This one is my biggest MUST. I was introduced to this three months ago and I noticed the difference within 2 weeks. My skin feels firmer and tighter. Stick a scoop in your coffee or in a smoothie. Once a day for a few weeks and you will see the difference I promise!
